Last Chance to Vote in Draft Joe Sestak Straw Poll

by: John Morgan

Sun May 10, 2009 at 18:38:34 PM EDT

Are you angry that some Pennsylvania Democrats already anointed Arlen Specter as their candidate next year?  Would you rather have a Senator who espouses and supports Democratic causes and the President?  Do you want a Senator who doesn't accept contributions from the Friends of Phil Gramm?

You can go here and vote to draft Congressman Joe Sestak to run in the primary.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee wants your vote:

Since announcing himself a Democrat, Sen. Arlen Specter opposed President Obama's health care plan, voted with banks to kick people out of their homes, opposed Employee Free Choice, said Norm Coleman should be seated in Minnesota, launched a "cure cancer" fundraising site that actually funds his own political campaign, and declared he will not be a loyal Democrat.

There's an important decision for Democrats and progressives to make concerning 2010, and that's why nearly 7,000 people have now voted in this grassroots Straw Poll:
"Should a Draft Sestak movement be created to take on Sen. Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary?"

If you haven't voted yet, please cast your vote here.

Voting remains open for less than 24 hours, ending 10am EST Monday. Arguments for and against drafting Sestak are made on the polling site.

This Straw Poll has already been covered by Politico, ABC, NBC, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and a bunch of news outlets across Pennsylvania. We launched it with Daily Kos, The Pennsylvania Progressive, Keystone Progress, Afro-Netizen, Howard Dean's DFA, Open Left, Digby, Crooksandliars, Latina Lista, and other progressive partners.

Our goal is to give the grassroots a voice in a race with national implications that has thus far been dominated by a few party insiders. Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) told a local paper he is watching the Straw Poll, as are other political insiders.
