You Can Balance the State Budget

by: John Morgan

Tue Jun 30, 2009 at 10:28:08 AM EDT

If you're wondering why the discussion in Harrisburg is so heated over the state budget Keystone Progress has a new website where you can do it yourself.  Caution:  it is much harder than you think.  Deciding what programs must be cut and/or what taxes to raise is much more difficult when it is put into your own hands.  Do you cut public safety?  Education?  Economic development or children's health care?

Do you raise the income tax or personal income tax?  Better yet how would you explain your choices to the voters back home?  The state deficit is so large it requires extremely difficult decisions which will affect all of the Commonwealth.  Go to the website and see for yourself.

That website is a joke! (0.00 / 0)
There are many other programs and depts. that can be cut and are not listed! The purpose of that site is to convince people that the only way out of the deficit is to raise the state income tax.
It's another elitist far left, raise taxes on the average worker ploy. I can support something like a .25% tax increase but that is all. I have enough deductions in my checks now.
These rich lefty elitists can afford this, the rest of us can't, especially in these times when many people already are not getting any raises this year.

So which programs would you include (0.00 / 0)
which would have a major effect on the budget?  The ones listed are the significant programs having substantial effect.  Same thing with revenues.  You can't balance $% billion only by cutting small programs or by increasing car registration fees.
