Shellshock

by: John Morgan

Wed Nov 04, 2009 at 01:19:44 AM EST

Democrats were blindsided by their own who stayed home in droves and sent a clear and distinct message about their disappointment.  Republicans, meanwhile, motivated to hit back after last year's defeats got to the polls and elected their slates.  Being in Northampton County tonight was like being at a funeral.  The GOP swept all five County Council seats and Don Cunningham in Lehigh County barely beat a religious extremist from the lunatic fringe.

This should be a wake up call for Democrats.  Jack Panella, a genuinely good man lost to someone who promised to rig cases in return for endorsements.  Republican judicial candidates took six of the seven statewide races.  Some very good people lost because Dems refused to vote.  Why?  Disgust with Barack Obama's lack of leadership, especially on health care.  People cannot fathom why we're settling for a very bad health care bill when they control the White House, the Senate and the House.  They cannot comprehend going through a battle royal over health care reform and not actually get any significant progress.  They don't understand a man they elected to lead the country abdicating that role to....no one.

There was no buzz anywhere about these races and the price to be paid will be dear.  Republicans will gerrymander all the districts through 2020 and the people will pay the price.  When they begin screaming about why this was drawn so crazily and why it isn't fair they need only look in the mirror to see who is responsible.  These were crucial, critical contests and Democrats sat them out.

These were crucial, critical contests and Democrats sat them out

welcome to my side, circa 2006, 2008.

I know how frustrating that is. My side had it all in 2000 and pissed it away by spending like drunken Kennedys on a weekend bender.

Maybe in the next election my side will give you the barry hussien your side gave us to rally against.

Actually, i am not liking where this is all headed...instead of being the great hope, the great unifier, barry is doing what he does best...splitting everyone up along race, gender and economic lines.  But thats what commies do...class warfare in order to get power.

sad day for a unified america.

Re all kidding aside... (0.00 / 0)
Your ending comment on Obama: "But thats what commies do...class warfare in order to get power."
Based on your above quoted words, must we now assume that it is your opinion that President Obama is a communist?
Or is it simply a case of running off at the mouth before the brain kicks in?
As for your confused notion that I am a so-called "lefty" allow me to once again remind you that on certain selected issues a rightwingnut might consider my positions to be on the left.
Among these would be healthcare, minimum wage, EFCA and issues dealing in general with economic justice for those in this nation who are left without wealth, influence and power...people who are systemically screwed over by rapacious businesses, insurance companies, bankers, food and oil speculators and the assorted scum that dwells along Wall Street.
To these, I plead guilty as charged.
On yet other issues I am found no where near the left.
Among these are illegal immigration, same-sex marriage, hate crime laws, multiculturalism and bilingualism, anti-U.S. military, as well as pro PLO/anti-Israel positions. To avoid too long a bill, allow me to add another: Political correctness, which is a dispeakable and cowardly practice with roots going back to Joseph Stalin, which still continues to serve essentially as a tyranny over one's right to think things out for oneself.
The point here tylerderbun, is that a centrist is simply one who possesses a measure of personal integrity...one who thinks for himself and refuses to be slotted into this or that hole like a square or round peg.
Unlike yourself, (of John I'm not certain) I do not carry a PC handbook to tell me how to think on a particular political or social question.
Matt Thomas

fair enough... (0.00 / 0)
But truth be told...i am against nationalized healthcare (more govt), against a minimum wage (the idea of it offends me because who is the govt to say what a unit of labor is worth, plus it does more harm than good everytime it goes up) and anything that takes person A's money away and gives it to person B in the same of governmental compassion. And i am totallyt against class envy. As long as someone aquires their wealth legally, I have no problem with how they spend it any more than I have with how a poorer person would spend their money.

I would lean left on things like legalization of drugs...as i think the war failed. I am also blase about same sex marriage, but i do think that it should be handled the same way as gun permits...if State A allows it, and state B doesn't then the marriage certificate issued in State A is void in State B.  My PA permit to carry isnt valid in NY, so I dont go there with it...same idea.

And if everything you say is correct...then you REALLY must hate Barry because he is definately in favor of many of the things you are against...

i'll keep your list in my memory banks so going forward, I will avoid broad brush strokes.

have a great day :)

p.s. almost forgot...barry being a commie...  No, i was more tossing out a joke. However, he does have a statist political view, was mentored on the knee of a commie (Frank Marshall Davis), surrounds himself with folks with socialistic  leanings...Rev. Wright, Van Jones, Bill Ayers, Cass SUnstein, John Holdren, and he himself thinks its a great idea to spread the wealth around.  it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.

Class warfare (0.00 / 0)
...your comments scare me.  The GOP engaged in vicious class warfare for thirty years.  You've destroyed the middle class sending millions into poverty, stripping women of their rights, gays and lesbians of our equal citizenship, and expanding wealth for the rich.  That is the ultimate in class warfare so don't insult us by claiming liberals engage in class warfare.  Bush and the Republicans created the largest disparity in wealth and incomes since the 1920's.

Sometimes we overanalyze (0.00 / 0)
I think this election simply boils down to the teabaggers getting out and voting against Democrats because of their hatred for Obama and those newly registered Dems who only registered to vote for Obama last year. Many of those people will probably never vote again.
I don't know how you can convince these fools that the local and state races affect you more directly than the President does.
Also the unemployment situation had a hand and independents voted against the party in power.
The health care debate was a distant fourth reason in exit polling today. I don't think it had much effect, certainly not as much as jobs and the economy.

Let me clarify (0.00 / 0)
I do think the teabaggers will be more than a one time thing, it's the new Obama people who I think are the one time voters.

[ Parent ]
Re...Sometimes we overanalyze (0.00 / 0)
You're probably (and hopefully) correct about these "tea-baggers" being a one-shot deal.
However, take a look at the other side:
Philadelphia City turned out an historic low of eleven (11%) percent of Democratic voters while its own suburbs carried the day for the Republicans.
Question: Where in hell were those Philadelphia precinct captains (or whatever in hell they are called these days) who are charged with (and paid generously) to get out the vote?
In the old days, a Richard Daley...a Michael Curley or (God forgive me) a Frank Hague would have nothing to fear from this appellate court Republican challenge...for each and everyone of these Philadelphia paid hacks would know full well that if the needed votes were not delivered on election day they would be kicked out on their bloody asses.
Matt Thomas

Not quite fair enough... (0.00 / 0)
Once again, tylerderbun, one only needs to use your very own words in quotation:
"And if everything you say is correct...then you REALLY must hate Barry because he is definately in favor of many of the things you are against..."
No...I do not "hate" the president...for those whom hate a person simply because he may disagree with one's own agenda is more akin to your friends among the rightwingnuts.
Do I strongly disagree with the president's handling of certain issues?
Well, take healthcare reform...and you're damn right I do.
Obama needs to grow some balls and start kicking ass in both the Democrat-controlled Congress and Senate...moreover, he needs to hit back hard at those tea-bagger assholes and those yellow Republican bastards who hide behind them.
I am reminded of Franklin Roosevelt's challenge to the Republicans voiced at the 1936 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia:
"They are united in their hatred for me...and I welcome their hatred."
Now that is a president with balls.
And you can add to Obama's pussy-footing on healthcare reform his failure to support same-sex marraige.
Yeah...that's right...I do not support that same gay initiative...but, if one gives their word to support people in turn for their loyalty and then turns his back on these same near 100% loyal supporters for political expediency he should feel nothing less than shame.
On your (quote) "almost forgot...barry being a commie...No, i was more tossing out a joke."
Is that the best you can do?
Your calling the president of the United States of America a communist was only a joke?
Sorry, tylerderbun, but you need to be honest enough to stand up and defend your own stated opinions, however repugnant or totally off the wall they may be.
Do not fear...no one is coming at midnight in black helicopters to arrest you.
If you truly believe president Obama to be a communist, then make your case and stand by your words instead of trying to weasel out by calling the entire thing a lame joke.
I cannot wait to hear the details of your indictment.
It might even be enough to wake up Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn.
Matt Thomas

yup...that took about 10 seconds... (0.00 / 0)
Let's hear the word from our favorite..snicker...moderate...snicker

rightwingnuts...but no leftwingsnuts.  yup..so MODERATE.
tea bagger assholes...yup..so MODERATE
Obama (mr i would let babies die in a pan) needs to start kicking ass...wow, that has MODERATION written all over it
yellow republican bastards...wow, you are SO right down the middle its scary!

wow. i can see why you call yourself a moderate. Yup, you are so middle of the road you are like a the dotted yellow line.

And the funny thing is...despite it all, i bet you would pass a lie detector test. You are convinced you are, when everything else...like your own words...is evidence otherwise.

I'm waiting for Johns next post where you can take your turn bashing the Jews, or rejoicing over Mao.

It wont be long. Just let you type and the truth comes out. You cant help yourself.

Moderate...best joke I've heard this morning.  and I emphasize the word JOKE.

have a great day :)

p.s. here's my defense of my comments...barry is a big government statist.  his policies, his leadership, his own words. call it communist, call it socialist, call it whatever you want...but its not capitalist, and its not American.  think of it this way...who does he hang out with? who adores me? commie dictators like Hugo Chavez. You are known by the company you keep (dont care who said it first) and he keeps the company of scoundrels.

let's see what happens to MODERATE DEMS... (0.00 / 0)
http://www.washingtonexaminer....

A few days ago, the left-wing activist group MoveOn.org began sending out emails seeking contributions to fund primary challenges against any Democratic senator who does not fully support "health care reform with a public option." Now there's an update: MoveOn executive director Justin Ruben says the group has raised $3,578,117 for the project and is thinking of new ways to punish errant Democratic lawmakers.

hey wait, i'm a moderate dem who is against abortion!
hey wait, i'm a moderate dem who thinks that forcing people to buy healthcare is unconstituitional!
hey wait, i'm a moderate dem who thinks this overhaul is a giant tax on the middle class and my constituents (the people i represent in congress) are against it!
hey wait, i thought we needed to be better stewards of the tax payers money!

Was that 10 seconds of bullshit? (0.00 / 0)
Still trying to weasel out of it, heh...tylerbun?
Quote: "barry is a big government statist...his policies, his leadership, his own words. call it communist, call it socialist, call it whatever you want...but its not capitalist, and its not American."
Sorry...but I did not call President Obama a communist.
You did...the exact word you used was "communist."
Let us move on to examine your further words: "think of it this way...who does he hang out with? who adores me? commie dictators like Hugo Chavez. You are known by the company you keep (dont care who said it first) and he keeps the company of scoundrels."
While I do not agree with President Obama's handling of this rat, Chavez, it does not in any way (except to an idiot or a crazed Obama-hater) make the president a communist.
As for your quote: "You are known by the company you keep"
(This sophomoric line is better known as "guilt by association" and Joe McCarthy would, once again, be proud of you).
Then we have your final term of "scoundrels."
Yet, the only true scoundrels that one runs across are your own right-wing assholes who so frequently wrap themselves in the American flag.
"Patriotism is the last refuge of every scoundrel." - Samuel Johnson (1709-1784)
Matt Thomas

10 seconds for you to take your claims... (0.00 / 0)
of being a moderate and remove all doubt...YET AGAIN.

the only thing missing from your lefty diatribes is the "no blood for oil mantra", HALIBURTON!, and a smear against Sarah Palin.

But its still early...you just cant help yourself. And then you get all sorts of "girlie kind" of offended when i say you are about as moderate as the late not so great teddy kennedy.

and rather than rehash words that arent your own in the pathetic attempt to deflect the fact that you cant form your own, you seem not be worried about a president who keeps the company of commies, statists and left wing assholes. It doesnt bother you that the president of the US seems more interested in making kissy faces and playing nice with dictators around the world rather than winning a war...you remember the war right? barry called it necessary...necessary during the primary I guess...

but hey, what do i know, based on what you write, your thong is more in a wad over radio talk show hosts who you seem to deem a more compelling enemy than nuclear armed dictators from islamic hell holes.

have a great day :)

p.s. your infatuation with mccarthy borders on the 'me thinks he doth protest too much'

[ Parent ]
a final 10 seconds... (0.00 / 0)
Your last posting, once again, fails to support you originally calling President Obama a Communist....and your little trick of attacking one's accuser when you can't control or defend what comes running out of your own mouth is actually a long-used tactic of guess who...that's right, dummy...the Commies!!
No surprise here since anyone half-familiar with political history knows that you true believers on both the extreme right and left are essentially alter-egos.
Hey...don't take this too hard...just think of how proud Hugo Chavez would be of his alter-ego blogger.
Matt Thomas
