Reagan on the Fifty?

by: John Morgan

Thu Mar 04, 2010 at 09:17:24 AM EST

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) wants to pass legislation putting Ronald Reagan's picture on the fifty dollar bill.  McHenry is a far right wing ideologue who apparently worships Reagan.  I think this is a good idea with one provision:  replace the "In God We Trust" with this:  "This Man Tripled the National Debt In Eight Years."  Having his face on our money with this reminder of his horrendous fiscal management might remind Americans to be more financially responsible with a bad example such as Reagan on their money.  It would have one unfortunate side effect:  millions of Americans and foreigners would spit on their money.  At least blind people wouldn't have to fold the corners.  They'd know their fifties because they'd be wet.

In remembering Ronald Reagan... (4.00 / 1)
A few things that come to mind:
> Trading arms to an enemy of the United States...or maybe the Ayatollah was not our enemy?? ...and was there not a time when such conduct was considered high treason?
> He severely cut back school lunch programs while his USDA was claiming that the ketchup on a 8 year-old kid's french fries was actually a vegetable.
> Under his watch, the US plunged from the world's largest creditor to the largest debtor nation.
> He shamed the office of the American Presidency by honoring Nazi war dead at Bitteburg, Germany...including members of the SS who slaughtered unarmed U.S. POWs captured during the Battle of the Bulge.
> AIDS was first recognized as a disease in 1981, the same year Reagan took office. As a toady for the religious right, he would not even utter that very word for the next 5 years.
> Finally, to avoid too long a bill...Reagan and his supporters stole credit for the disintegration of the Soviet Union and have continued this lie to the present day.
It was the late George Kennan, advisor to Truman's Secretary of State, General George C. Marshall, who initiated the Marshall Plan, followed by years of continued economic and political restraint on Soviet ambitions in Europe and Asia that finally bankrupted them.
Actually, Pope John Paul II, by his nurturing and support for the Solidarnosc movement in Poland had more to do with the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union than did the phoney actor Reagan.
We need to put an end to this lie before it becomes ensconced within our schools' history books.
